I'm trying to clean out our bathroom sink drains, but it looks like there is lots of hair and gunk stuck to the drain stopper. I looked under the sink to see how to get the stopper out but it looks like if I unscrew something to get the plug out, there will be a hole in the drainpipe. I'd like to permanently remove the stopper and put in a hair-catching thing.
Please email me answers. Thanks.

I asked to have answers emailed to me, but that isn't necessary as I will keep checking back here. Thanks!

Bathroom sink drains are sold either "with pop up" or without. The main difference is the tailpiece on the drain where the lever that controls the pop-up goes into it. You can replace this tailpiece if you want to get rid of the stopper. To clean it, you can unscrew the nut on the tailpiece and pull the lever out. Then just lift the stopper out. The stopper has a "J" shaped hook in it that the lever goes into so if you decide to leave it in after cleaning, just make sure you "hook" the lever back into it. Good luck.
