The toilet in my house occasionally stops refilling (Once every two months or so). Normally, all that is required is for me to refill the tank manually and flush and all is right again. This time however, this tack has not worked. It has continued for a little over a week. While an inconvenience, I was ready to live with it until my plumber friend comes back from vacation. Now, a new problem has arisen. It won't flush at all. More accurately, the bowl will not drain. Now, I know this means its clogged, but I haven't used it in 3 days. I woke up to the sound of the toilet running tonight and discovered this latest problem. No one uses that bathroom but me. It is now 5:45 am and I've been plunging and fighting this since 3 am. What can I do? Is my only recourse a toilet snake or a plumber, or is there something else I can do? :wall:

I don't think I would replace the toilet, especially if you have an older one that is not low flow. Those extra gallons come in handy now and then. I would replace the fill valve first and see if that solved the not filling problem[less than $10]. The other problems will be there with a new toilet. Use a decent[6 foot] closet auger[snake for toilets]. These things protect the bowl and make it easier to get into the drain pipe.
