We have an older house built in the 30's, which still has the original toilet (which works great!). When we flush it, while it is still filling back up w/water, the pipes make a loud horn sound until it finishes filling up. Lately, the horns are accompanied by vibration that you can feel through the floor of the house! Is this what is called "water hammer"? Would replacing the vintage toilet with a new low flow toilet help? Would installing a water hammer suppressor help? Any advice would be appreciated!

luvmyoldhouse, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
My guess would be that the fill tube in the tank is ready to be replaced. You can buy a FluidMaster 400A for about $6 and it comes with excellent installation instructions. Good luck and reply back with any further questions or the results.
