I have a Carrier 3 ton heat pump and all the refrigerant had escaped due to a leak on the high side specifically at the condenser coil. The leak is repairable, but do I need to add refrigerant oil that is compatible w/ R-22, cause I noticed there's a lot of oil residue on the area where the leak occured. I am worried that the compressor may not get enough lubrication that it will eventually seize up. I have the equipment and the know how on how to charge a system, but on sealed hermatic compressors which does not have an oil sight glass, I'm not sure.

I doubt very much that you lost enough oil to worry about. It usually looks like more than it is. Besides there's no way to tell without taking the existing oil out and measuring it back in.

Im with Matt a little bit of oil goes a long long wayto make a spot. You did say it was in the high side there on the condenser coil out side . so yes you could have lost some if your EPA you should know how put just one shot in it cant hurt. Yes it has to be moisture and wax free and for 22.
