I am trying to replace a bathtub in my house, but the drain strainer is rusted on. I have tried to use a plug wrench to remove the strainer but only succeeded in breaking off one of the cross bars in the strainer. Any thoughts or ideas on how to remove the strainer without destroying the tub or pipes?

You might try taking one of those handles that hold a hacksaw blade and cut some slits on the inside edge of the strainer (where the sides meet the flange) Cut until you are through the metal. Then squrit some WD-40 into the cuts and let it sit a while. You can then tap it in a counterclockwise direction with a small chisel placed into the cuts. Good luck.

When you replace the tub you will have to have access to hook up the drain. Get access now and hacksaw the the copper pipe that goes from the drain to the t fitting.
