I took two 12 vlt Makita cordless drills that I have owned for 12 years to the shop for some repairs. I was charged $120.00 for the repairs on each one. I didnt pay that much for them new.

Was comming home from work and was stopped a red light and got rearended pretty hard. My Dewalt saws all was in the trunk and the casing was completely smashed. I took it to the shop and got a call later from them saying that they couldnt get parts for this model saw because it had been discontinued. Dewalt sent me a brand new saw for the price of what the parts would have cost me had they still been in production...$43.00 SOOOOOO LOOOONG Makita and hello Dewalt. :D

Its nice that Dewalt did what they did for you. BUT, put yourself in a manufacturers position. 12 year old equipment. Would you replace it? You were lucky so be happy. It won't happen everytime. Not to be negative with you but I can't blame Makita for what they charged you for repairs. Makita may have nothing to do with it. Just the repair place.

If you got rear-ended, why wasn't the other person's car insurance paying for new tools?

I got zinged $70 to replace the trigger on my Makita impact drill. Still, cheaper than a new one. At least I asked for an estimate first.

I would have bought new drills for a repair of $120.00 each. At 12 years old, probably got your money out of them....

You've had cordless drills that lasted 12 years?
Hello more Makita!
That really is pretty mind boggling you know

After I read yalls replys I guess maybe I did overreact some. Guess I cant really blame Makita after all the guns lasted longer than most you get today. I may start my own tool museum with them now :D :D :D Thanks folks for screwing my head back on right. You have a great web site here.

Hey guys,
Seems to me there are three points to ponder here:
1) He sure got some good mileage from those Makita tools

2) Gotta love the customer service from DeWalt-something you rarely even get at a restaurant any more.

3) Always let your power tools ride shotgun where they can be protected by the seat belt and the air bag. :)

The mikita 7-1/4 circular saws are pretty good. I've had mine 10+ years. It's getting close being replaced, but still going for now.
