Hi. I really need your help. I am not experienced at all with how to fix much of anything in a home. My husband and I had a builder build our house 4 years ago. We have had sooo many problems with this house. The current problem is that the shower was leaking from the weep hole and getting water behind our drywall and carpet. The drywall has been chipping since about the 2nd month we lived in the house. I didn't pay much attention to it because I thought it was just a bad piece of drywall and we had much bigger problems at that time. Well, years have come and gone now and just recently, the floor has been saturated w/ water after we take our showers. I called the builder and told them the whole scenario and they sent a mold company out to get all the mold out. The company ripped out my carpet and my tile. I figured that the builder would just replace and fix it but they aren't going to. I have to fix all this and on top of that, I still have a leaky shower! They said it leaked due to my failure to ever seal the gout. It just doesn't make sense to me that I could get all that water from not sealing the grout. It is very evident that the water is coming right out of the weep hole. I can pour water directly over the weep hole and it comes right out where the drywall was. I had some plumbers come out and one told me that our builder shouldn't have installed a fiberglass base with weep holes in it for a tile shower. He told me to caulk the weep holes. I am so confused. Can anyone help?

Since your situation seems so devastating, I would bite the bullet, rip the entire shower enclosure out and put in a remodeler's 3 or 4 piece shower unit, and be done with this situation permanently.
I would go with a Lasco, Aquaglass, or Sterling brand unit; they are of good quality.
Make sure you install a bed of mortar underneath the unit during installation.
