We got all the wall covering off our plaster walls and on one wall there are some hairline cracks. How do I handle that? Will skimming take care of it or will they come through after time?

It would be best to scratch out all the cracks [use a screwdriver or putty knife edge]. That way the spackling would have more area to bond to. Durabond would probably do better than spackling but I don't know if you would have enough use for it to warrant buying a bag.
