Are there recommended widths for front porches, depending upon what purpose you want to use it for?

I think I read them somewhere but now I can't find them. I think it was something like 3' for walking, 6' for something, and 8' for sitting or something like that...

Does anyone know what I"m talking about???

Never seen anything written in stone like that, but to me anything less than 8' isn't really a porch, more of a stoop. I wouldn't go anything less than 3-1/2' myself. Hope that helps a bit. :coffee:

Lindsay,

I would view the numbers that you mentioned as being the "minimum width", not "recommended width". If you are planning on putting chairs or benches on the porch, I would make it at least 8' wide, and however long it is from the front door around to the side door. Without the chairs or benches, 3-1/2 to 4' wide as the minimum, like Awesomedell said.
