We recently moved into a house and the bathtub/shower faucet would drip continously. It is a single handle, "Delta" faucet.

I bought Delta's $4 repair kit at Home Depot and replaced everything inside the handle. All seemed rather simple, replaced everything as I found it, but now I've found myself second guessing one part.

The fixture has a tarnished steel (or brass?) ball on a stick that controls the hot/cold water mix. The ball has one large hole across from three small holes.
The spot that the ball fits into has two o'ringed holes on the top (hot/cold) and one 'exit' main hole in the bottom with three 'dug out' holes in.

I made the assumption that the 'three' hole side of the ball matched the three dugout sections/1 hole on the bottom and installed it that way.

Faucet no longer drips, but it seems that I don't get a good 'mix' of hot/cold water. Great water pressure when mostly/all hot, as I turn it down towards cold the pressure drops considerably in the 'middle' section and goes up again once I get it over towards cold.

Did I install the ball upside down?
Something else I did causing this drop in pressure?

Its by no means unuseable, just makes me take a slightly warmer shower than I would so the pressure stays as high as I like it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, The Delta ball has a grove on one side that fits into a guide on the side of the valve that would only let you put it in one way. I have however saw one where the guide came out.You may want to check if it is missing. The guide is on the right side I think.
Good Luck Woodbutcher

The delta 'ball' was a ball/stick piece. Kind of like a lollipop.

The 'stick' was inserted into a plastic piece that regulates which direction(s) you can move the handle. This plastic piece had a nub that made it only insert in one direction.

However, the 'stick' can be removed from the plastic piece and inverted.

I still don't know if the ball is in upside down or not.

Faucet has two incoming pipes (hot/cold), and one outgoing pipe down towards the tub faucet. Inside the fixture, near the 'outgoing' pipe, are three small diveted out sections that flow together into the one exit.

The ball itself has a hole on onside, across from three smaller holes (that merge) on the other side.

Should the three holes face the incoming hot/cold pipes, or the outgoing 'mixed' pipe?

As it is, I've got the three holes facing the mixed pipe. The faucet works fine, in that it turns on/off, and doesn't leak. However, if it is all the way hot or cold, it won't fully shut off.

This makes me figure something is definately wrong...
