I will be building a deck and someone told me instead of digging the holes and filling them with cement, I could fill them with pea rock and then just put the cement 4x4 pillars on top to hold the 4x4 posts.

Has anyone ever done this in cold weather climates?

hi
if your in a cold climate the froost will move it.
It's recommended that you dig holes and used cement tube and place them below frost line.
the bottom of the hole, place about 4 to 6 inches of gravel
