The fan on my outside compressor is acting strange. It labors to turn and actually starts but then slows down to a crawl in the same spot each time around. I've replaced the capacitor (no change) and the fan blades spin freely when the unit is off. Is the motor simply shot?

I've done a search here and can't seem to zero in on the answer. Please help!

sounds like the motor is going out on you.. Make sure you are getting full power at all times.

I'm pretty sure it's getting full power.

How would I check that it's getting full power?

Sounds like you are ready for a new motor. What you need there to check it is an Amprobe that will tell you right away. But the way it is acting get a new one. Same Hp . RPM and turns the same way as it does.

OK. I can do that. I havent been able though to locate a motor with the same RPM's (need 1120 RPM). Any suggetions on where (online or otherwise) to find one. I'm in the Atlanta area. Thanks.

OK - Last question - I can't seem to find a fan that matches the horsepower, and the RPMs. If I have to go with a different RPM, should I go higher? What kind of problems would that present?

Thanks again.

Book shows Rheem has a OEM 1/4 hp at 1110 RPM can you find that one. Like you say most are 1075 RPM. I dont know what to tell you Lower RPM will kick up the head psi some And higher RPM more noise.

I doubt the difference in 1110 & 1075 rpm will make a significant difference.
