Hello,
The pipe section from the hot water heater to the coupling (about 2" long) on the outlet side has corroded significantly compared to the cold water inlet. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I can fix it?
Thankyou in advance.
Ram001.

Hello: Ram001

My guess would be there is a tiny leak around the threads. Just enough to cause corrosion and not make any visable puddles, etc. You'll need to turn off the inlet water and drain out a few pails full of water. Than remove the existing coupling, clean the threads in the tank nipple. Than install a new pipe nipple with pipe dope applied to it and snug it in tightly.

I'm sure the professional plumbers will have additional advice and or possibily a better repair solution. Check back on your question a few more times.

What Sharp meant was....the professionals HERE. You may need to remove/replace the nipple. If it is galanized steel, you will need a di-electric union before connecting to the copper piping (if that is what you have) This is a DIY job. No use spending unecessary money on a simple fix.
