My wife and I have an enclosed porch with what appears to be a wooden panel ceiling that I would like to repaint. There are some rust stains where the nails holding the ceiling have rusted. I plan to prime with Sherwin Williams Pro Block or Bullseye 1-2-3 primer and 2 coats of flat paint. Would an interior or exterior paint work best? I plan to use Sherwin Williams paint. The area is unheated during the winter. Would an oil base primer like Cover Stain work better on the rust stains? Thanks for your help!

Any oil base primer should work well on the rust. Be sure to coat it well as latex does little to stop rust. I would use exterior paint. A-100 is both economical and good paint for the ceiling.
If you can set the nail heads and putty over them there would be less chance of the rust coming back :)

Thanks for the response. I'm going to prime with Cover Stain and paint with exterior Super Paint.
