I currently have a 1998 brinks system that is suppose to be a model "2000". I've canceled the monitor service a few months back. I like to know what's the best/easiest way to convert the existing equipment to standalone.

I have one hardwire motion sensor and everything else is wireless. There are 11 zones that are wireless. There's a receiver at the ceiling of my gargage that picks up all the wireless signals and is wired into the panel. I am not sure what brand is it. I was told this is a common 900Mhz wireless set that brinks put in for their customers in 1998. Perhap you might know what receiver brinks put in for their customer at that time period. I could open up the receiver but I would need to borrow a ladder and open up the receiver case. Do I need to know the exact brand? Maybe just knowing that it works with brinks model 2000 is good enough?

The siren is probably a speaker so I would need a line driver or buy a siren. I've read that many recommend the GE systems. Please let me know which model would be the easiest way to go for me given the wireless.

Thanks for your help.

Brinks hardware tends to be pretty propriatory. The wireless is probably one configured for their panel, which means that it, the transmitters, as well as the panel and keypad(s) would have to be replaced.

If you can find a service tech who has one of the Brinks programmers, and the manual that goes with it, the particular model you have (Unlike many Brinks systems) can be reprogrammed within limits. (They aren't easy to come by unless you are a Brinks dealer)

As far as the speaker issue is concerned, most of the GE family panels come with the option of using speakers or 12v sirens, built in. This includes the relatively DIY friendly Concord express and Concord Ultra panels, both of which have wireless built in from the start.
