Hi, I have been looking around online for a possible fix to this problem. Our gas dryer does not heat up but tumbles just fine. Most websites say it is probably the solenoids causing the problem, so I use an ohm-meter on the primary and secondary coils on all 3 terminals for the primary and the 2 for the secondary. They all had readings of either .5 ohms or 1 ohm so I am assuming that is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? I do not hear the ignition noise after about a minute of running it. Thanks

Hello nightman. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

If you have checked around online on other web sites and not found the possible causes, your search is over. The possible causes and all the solutions are here within this forum topic gas appliances.

We start with the simpliest and most likely things first, when attempting to diganose problems. The solenoids are not the first place to start. The hot surface glowing igntior (HSI) is.

The ignitor must glow a very intense bright yellow or it is not hot enough to ignite gas. Thus the secondary solenoid will not activate and nor will the gas burner valve open.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part.
