Hi,
It might be a very simple question but I do need to get answer from you guys!!
When I replaced a new valve for my tank, I accidentaly broke it. I want to buy a new toilet tank. The brand for my old one is "American Standard" (1998). Do I need to buy exact same brand and same type or doesn't matter. It is all standard ?
Thanks

You will have to find one EXACTLY like the old one. Its not easily done. Its much easier and cheaper to replace the whole toilet. Things must fit perfectly or you will have a flood on your hands. While the sizing is supposed to be standard, these are made from a mold and each one is a bit different. you can try to find a replacement but may be unsuccessful. I would replace the whole thing.
Good luck with your project.

In general, it must be the same brand. Some brands have "suites" where several different 'look' tank/bowl combinations are possible. American Standard is a widely sold brand. 7 years is not real old in "toilet years". If it was purchased at a big box store, it is quite likely a Cadet model, and a similar unit purchased today would probably fit. You do need to determine the rough-in dimension ( floor bolts to wall), 10" or 12". The tank is often the determining component in this picture.
