We inherited my in-laws home and are planning to do some major repair work on it. We discovered the walls are double bricked and the walls are plaster on the inside brick. We really don't want to tear the plaster off and are thinking of either repairing the plastered walls or putting sheetrock over it. Since it would be really hard to put nails or screws into the brick, would it be possible to glue the sheetrock over the plastered walls with a good strong glue?

hi
Yes they sell adhesive for drywall.
You could used 1/4 drywall sheet to cover the plaster

cheers

thanks for the reply....we're hoping to be able to repair the plaster but will go the sheetrock route if that isn't feasible.

We went in today and tore off the paneling and the walls had been painted and then papered over that. The paper is off but the walls have a couple layers of paint that are chipped, some is loose and some is not. What would work to smooth the walls? Would it be o.k. to used a hand sander to get the loose off and and smooth it up,then patch any holes, etc. prime and then paint?

hi
:alarm: CHECK IF LEAD PAINT :alarm: wear respirator or dust mask
If it is just skim the wall with some drywall compound.
If not just srappe the loose paint and skim the wall with drywall compound.
Just take some drywall compound add some water to it
not to much like pankake batter then applied to the wall with roller
If hole are to big patch them first with drywall compound

good luck

Thanks for the reply....let me make sure I have it straight...get all loose off then add water to drywall compound to a consistency of pancake mix. Then put on with roller. Will it have to be sanded after that? And I imagine it should be primed before painting, right?
