Insurance - Allstate cancelled my insurance

They have cancelled my policy because "I have an uneven sidewalk" . I did not get the notification on time because they sent the mail to my old address inspite of me clearly mentioning that I will be moving to the new address on such-and-such date.

When I tried to get more explanation on this, no one in customer service was able to help me and I was given a number of a local agent who refused to help me and was very rude because I did not get the policy from him.

All I wanted was an explanation ..... I am frustrated by this experience

I am going to my old apartment to get the notification and see what it contains. My question is :
Am I responsible for fixing up my sidewalk? or the township? Pls bear with me , I am a first time home owner.

Have you talked to your original agent? If that produces nothing, there surely is someone over him.

If the sidewalk belongs to you, it would be your responsibility. If it belongs to the city, it would be the city's. If the insurance company holds you responsible for the condition of the sidewalk, this creates a conundrum because you have no control over the sidewalk.

Sorry but this has got me anxious. Apparently I read the notice that was sent and the insurance company was resign me back but in a different category. It looks like I will have to put up more money :mad:

Perhaps you have a higher rate because you have a higher risk due to the uneven sidewalk.
