Hi Everyone,
I bought a new construction house 2 years ago and I am finally getting off my butt to stain or seal my deck. I just cleanned it with Behr deck cleaner. I just found a product online thats called "5-minute fence stain" and I am thinking of using it. It's about $50 and will cover 600 square feet. Has anyone ever tried it before? Should I seal my deck instead of staining it? Should I seal it AFTER I stain it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I am not familiar with '5 min fence stain'. A deck stain is sometimes formulated different than siding or fence stain. Because a deck is a flat surface it usually gets more weather than a wall would. Any good deck stain will seal the deck. Whether you use a clear natural tone, semi transparent or solid color stain depends on what you want the finish product to look like.
The exterior stain you use on a deck is different than the stain you use inside which needs a sealer [poly] for a finish coat.

The manufactures claim it is fine to use on decks but I will need to tape off and cover sections of the house to prevent overspray (which I already knew). They guarantee it will last 2 years and possably longer. The 5 min' stain is concentrated attaches to a garden hose and sprays on. It almost seems too easy

If it sprays with a garden hose attachment my big concern would be that it might get watered down too much. Thompson water seal and a few of the light weight stains can be sprayed using a pump up garden sprayer. Unfortunately thompson rairly last more than 1 year. 2 years is a pretty good gaurantee.

Help!!! I stained my deck a week ago. Instead of using a stain brush I used what's called a "deck hand", which is basically a mop. BAD IDEA!. Paint got everywhere and what makes it worse is that it left these puddles - it was a windy day and these puddles dried before I could blend it in. Now it's all uneven and I have these puddle marks everywhere. I don't know what to do! I tried sanding down the uneven stain puddle marks and that didn't work because you can still see them. Should I just put on more coats to even out the color or should i just paint it with regular darker paint??

The good news is that this will fade on its own in time. If you want to speed up the process, hit it with the pressure washer. Applying another coat might help, but read the label first, as some products are only meant to be applied in one coat.

or the second coat has to be applied within a specific time frame. These types of stains usually shouldn't be recoated until it has weathered or been removed by stripping.
