Hi, hoping to get some advice .. not necesarily a step-by-step guide .. ;)

I have an old Lennox Air Con .. external ... I want to trash it .. I've called the city, they'll haul it away .. but I have to unhook it ..

Here's the trick - I don't know how .. nor do I know about any tricky "regulations" such as what to do with a freon leak, or whatever ..

Here's my first question (and I can guess the answer ... ) :D

1) Is unhooking the Air Con easy - including "plugging" the holes in the side of my house (that's right, it's going away, and I'm not replacing it) .. or should I find a "professional" to do the unhook job for me?

I'm not afraid to tackle this with a bit of help from some friends ... I just need an idea of what should be done / needs to be done.

However, if it's waaaay too complicated/dangerous (ie chemicals, etc.), then I'll glady leave it to the proper people.

My gut feeling is ... call somebody to come in and do it ...

which leads to my 2nd question ..

I'm in Toronto, does anyone know of any place that will do this? (I'm not looking for advertising here .. just some suggestions on who might be best ... if needed - just PM me this info .. as I don't want anyone violating any Codes of Conduct ..)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

You have to call a hvac company to come out and pump it down OR use a recovery unit on it to get all of the freon out of it. From there on out Id say its your baby and go at it if you want.. Kill the power and cut the lines pull it all out.

Why are you taking it out? Why not put one in again? Will help with the retail value of the home.

Ed is right...
It wouldn't cost that much for some one to go out and pump it down if you can take care of the rest of it..

Good Luck

It's in the wrong spot ... we're redoing the steps down the side of the house .. and we just aren't interested in getting a new one and having to re-install ... yeah, might not help the "retail" .. but we're going for the other half of the argument that the better stairs and more hospitable patio/area will look ...

IMHO ... a huge external Air Con is overkill ... especially in our climate ..

The city will take it PROVIDING you can show that the gases were recovered. The don't even take refrigerators unless its documented. Have the company put a sticker on it and sign it with a sharpie. Thats what I do and haven't had a problem with it yet. :wall:
