My house was built in the 1950's and as such has plaster over gypsom lath walls. In the bathroom, I want to add a wall at the end of the tub that will separate the tub from the toilet. My question is, should I cut a section out of the plaster wall and ceiling to accommodate the new 2X4 of the new wall, or can I just put the 2X4 against the plaster and screw through the plaster wall to the studs behind? If the suggestion is to cut out a 4" section of the plaster, what would be the best cutting tool for a clean edge?
