I posted a week or two about my reluctance to pay for sears service just to get the parts which were under warranty. My thinking was that to pay for someone to come out and "verify" that the thermostat was bad was a waste of money and I could practically buy a new tank for the service fee.
Some posters felt the problem could be sediment, etc but to me, everything pointed to the thermostat. Anyhow, after getting nowhere with the service department, I called the local store manager. It never fails, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.
Not only did it result in a "free" service visit, *Yes, they determined the thermostat was not working right, but they installed it too. I thought, they would just "authorize" me to get a replacement, but apparently my "squeeking" caused the manager to throw in the complete replacement. I could have done it myself, but now my time can be used for other projects. As an added bonus, when the guy was here, my wife mentioned the water smelled once in a while, so they replaced the anode too, (also free)
