I have a 4 year old Kenmore gas range. One of the bowls is very dirty, and I would like to replace it. The owner's manual states that you should not remove the burner bowl. Is there a safe way to remove and replace the burner bowl?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello Tim. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

I'll be perfectly honest with you. I do not have a clue what you mean be "Bowl." Are you referring to the overflow and decroative trim ring (usually chrome) around the burner and beneath the grate?

Depending upon model, there may be some logical reason why the owners manual states the part should not be removed. Can't think of any myself.

Would you kindly further describe, in much more details, including the location, etc the part and provide the model number to the appliance.

Kindly use the reply button to add any additional information and or questions. Any additional information you add will than remain within this posting. Using this method also moves or keeps your question at the top of the list automatically.

Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals, which may be available online.

Additional Help:
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model an serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to be so high level. Let me provide more details:

I have a Kenmore 30" sealed gas cooktop. The components of the cooktop are as follows, from top to bottom.

Burner grate
burner cap
burner head
burner bowl which ahs three things coming up from under the range - mixer tube chimney and mixer tube, and the spark igniter. The instructions specificallty state: Do not remove the burner bowl!

In other words, the burner bowl is the part inbetween the range and what is below.

Is this because of the mixer tube or the igniter? Is there anyway I can replace this carefully?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello: Tim

I suspect the instructions mean not to disassemble the parts while the appliance is in the upright position. You're likely to have to totally remove the cooktop and turn it upside down. Than remove the bottom enclosure to access the parts.

If they parts are disassembled while in the upright position (installed in the cooktop as they are now) the parts will fall down inside the enclosure and not be accessible. Cooktop may not be a dot it yourself project and likely to need professional service. Inquire at the local appliance parts store or call the manufacturers service number.
