How are ya?

Device: Electrical water heater, Richmond model 8V52-2, 50 Gal capacity.

Problem: The hot water is grand for a few minutes but then goes warm and soon cold.

After reading the threads (very helpful!!) I believe that there are two possible issues: 1) a damaged or missing 'dip tube' or 2) bad or 'sticking' thermostat.

My question is this. Another symptom is that the hot water recovers very quickly again after I turn off the shower. If I leave it off for a few minutes, there will again be hot water which will last about the same length of time as the first time. Does this effect confirm any of the issues above?

thanks
CP.

Really sounds like the dip tube. When it is missing or damaged it lets the cold water "short circuit" and instead of going to the bottom of the tank and pushing the hot water out, it goes directly out the hot outlet pipe. Since the rest of the water is still hot, it doesn't seem to take long to get the same temp water as before. Good luck.
