I live in a 1947 home with plaster and lathe walls and ceilings. Prior to moving in (5 years ago) there was a gutter back up that leaked some water into the house. The leak has been fixed so we have no further issue there.
On the ceiling, a layer of plaster and/or paint (?) has peeled away from the ceiling exposing what appears to be the smooth face of the plaster. Can I scrape this layer off and prime and paint or is there something else that needs to be done?
I'm prepping for sale and really don't want to invest a large amount of money into it.
Thanks
Brett

scrape it off --clean it a little---ease some of the edges --- prime it with some BIN from Zinsser[search]and fill it flush with some drywall mud or maybe better some Easysand 45 [powder form mud] in the sheetrock aisle in the Depot. Sand it,maybe add another coat if necessary, prime it, paint it and sell it. You can either prime the whole ceiling or just the patch. Personally I would prime the patch and then prime the whole ceiling and then paint.

Take the time to get the repair smoothe. You will see if it is good enough after you prime the repair. If it isn't do it over. The Bin s for spot priming and not the whole ceiling. I would use Zinsser bullseye 123 [depot] you uae what you want. If the ceiling is anything other than flat paint use the 123.
