We just bought our first home and are doing some trial by error remodeling, but this I want to get right. We receieved a brand new in the box 3 pc fiberglass tub surround by Kohler for free, but have NO CLUE as how to install it, how to cut it if need be and what to cut it with, how to adhere it...we know nothing. We are installing it over pink and black ceramic tile.

Can anyone help....step by step instructions would be the best, I have tried EVERY do-it-yourself web site and book out there with no luck.

Open the box, there should be instructions inside it.

Hi, make sure that the ceramic tiles are clean. Use a product to clean for mold even if there is none visible. You will not regret it. Installing a tub surround is nice but the prep work will pay off . You do not want to investigate a moldy smell down the road and have to remove the surround kit.
Just a Thot.

First thing to do is call kohler and find out if you can install it over ceramic tile. I am not saying you can't but it is wise to call. The adhesive used has to have somewhere to gas out of and ceramic tile may not be ok.

All the surrounds we've installed recommend laying out the adhesive, installing the surround to the wall, then pull surround panel back off for 3-5 minutes to let the gases evaporate, then reinstall.

Safe over ceranic tile? Do the manufacturers say this is reccomended. I hope so it will make life a lot easier. I was under the impression that the gas escapes over an extended period of time and may soften the plastic surround sometime in the future. I think it is standard to install this way even on drywall and doing it this way doesn't really remove any of the potential problems. I hope I am wrong. I know of one that says it is ok----duro-tile.

That's why I'm not touching the true question about surround over tile:)

I've always just cut out and installed new backer board so I know my azz is covered

Thanks for clearing that up 'cause joneq was confused. Lucky you misspelled that 3 letter word. joneq got a special pm for not misspelling it one time.

Here is one that goes over tile. I don't think it's advertising.
