A friend of mine wants me to help him build a deck. He wants it to be 18 x 8 (projection) and wants it only 6" high. How would you go about doing this?

Could I use 2x6 for ledger and all joists begin that it will only span 8 feet?

How do I keep it to only 6" high?

I would advise against building a deck only 6" high. Even using 2X6 joists [2X8 is better] and 1" decking you are at 6 1/2" Also it is best to have air circulation under the deck to allow it to dry after rain. I believe he would get better results out of framing up and pouring concrete.

A 6" high deck is an almost perfect situation for a paver patio...
