I'm trying to remove and replace an old tub faucet. I've read that all you need to do is grab it, turn it counterclockwise and it will screw off. When I do that all it does is spin around. There is a slot underneath the faucet and I think there might be a hex screw there. Could this be holding it in? Thanks for your help.

If you are referring to the tub spout, it may have a set screw. Look under the spout and if there is a slot, there is a screw in it. Loosen it and you should be able to remove it. There will also be "O" rings holding it on.. Good Luck.

Yes, it is the bathtub faucet I'm trying to remove. The screw in the slot looks like it could be a hex screw. Is this possible? Thanks for your time.

YUP, most of them are Allen screws. Remove it or at least loosen it most of the way and then pull the spout off. We are always here for your questions.
