Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'll give this question a shot.
I recently bought a house built in 1930. It has slim baseboard radiators everywhere. They are solid, I think cast iron, with thick fins on the inside.
Behind the radiators are a paper like backing. One layer is silvery the other is black with heavy black thread like material running through the black layer. The material wraps around behind the heaters and is held in place by quarter round running along the top and bottom of the heater.
I had to remove some of this material along the top of the heater where the quarterround covered it when replacing a piece of quarterround running along the top. The material was crumbling, so I got it very wet and cleaned it up so as not to create dust in case it was asbestos. I wore a dust mask while doing it.
So my questions. Does this material contain asbestos?
Is it possible to remove or move these heaters to put in new flooring.
Thanks for the help.

This site explains that to do with asbestos in homes and who to contact.
In all likelihood it is not asbestos. However back in those days they did use asbestos a lot. but they did not use foil. So it appears that it was installed afterwards.
