Don't know how to name that kind of ceiling I have.
It's a sheetrock covered by very hard material - my guess is - plaster.
I have a picture at www.gis.net/~sergey6
It is a 17 years old house and ceiling had been repaired some time ago by previous owner. Because it's impossible to match the texture it has a pretty ugly irregularities and no way to fix it.
I want to make it smoth.
Is it possible to plaster it over with the smoth sourface or is it better to take it down and put a new sheetrock? What would be the cost (room 14'x20') to plaster it over?

hi
looks like rusticco plaster.
they would mix it and then used a mesh rooler toa pplied and then used a plaster brush to fatten it.
I think you can scrappe it off with a long handle scrapper.
to ease it more just used a sprayer like for gardening and used some hot water and applied it.
I will esayly come off.
Make sure you lay trap on floor first
cheers

I dont think thats going to come off at all, let alone easily. You can scrape down the high spots and try to skim it smooth. Looks like a tough one to me.
