Some of the guide rollers that run in the track on either side of my overhead garage door are broken. I intend to replace all 10 of them and get it over with. Problem is how to get them out of the track without dismantaling the whole thing. The 'expert' at Lowe's suggested using a pry bar and just forcing them out.

Here is the way to do it. Take a big pliers and right in front of the roller, pry out the inside edge of the track, bent it slightly, and pull out your roller. After installing the new one, make sure you bend the track edge back. Good Luck

If you have the style of track that is a modified "J" then remove the hinge/roller bracket and it will twist out.
Before replacing the roller, make sure that the shaft bushing is not excessivly loose.

If you remove the hindge roller brackets, you cannot get them back in as tight as they were. They will always come loose. That is why I did not suggest that.

If you find that the roller shaft bushing is worn, causing the newly replaced roller to wobble excessively, wearing unevenly, necessitating more frequent replacement and the inevitability of the hinge/roller bracket replacement.

The hinge/roller bracket is a rather uncomplicated mechanical connection.

Thanks for the responses. I did get the rollers changed and then found out they were not the problem. There are two springs on either side of the door with a cable going down and connecting to the bracket on the bottom edge of door. These cables are not in alignment with the door and that causes the door to wobble when it is opened/closed. I have two doors and the other works OK so I can tell from the other door that the cables should be in alignment with the door. The only option I can see is to remove the guide rollers that are mounted on the wall over the door and reposition them so they are in line with the cable. Any comments?

Jerry Kay,

You have bad pulleys. That is why the door is wobbling. There are 2 on each side, one mounted to the track and one on the spring.

You might want to try to lube the center of all four of them first and see how that works. Use regular motor oil to lube them. Stay away from wd-40 or silicone spray, they dry up too quickly.
