we poured a new cart path this winter and now i have an area on a hill side that heaves up every afternoon and lays down in the evening. it was wet when we poured[had just rained 1" 2 days before]. the mix was 3500 psi with fiber mesh, no steel. four inches thick by six feet wide. our soils in this area are black clay. this has been happening for about a week now since the afternoon temps have reached the 70s and 80s. will the heaving stop on its own, or do i need to do something? this heaving is only at one expansion joint about half way down the slope.
what actually causes the heave? you can see underneath the slab when heaved and then it lays right back down at night. i understand expansion/contraction of soils, but it has not rained in 2 weeks.
