Would this type of finish cover the thin, semi-circle stipple/brush design that was previously used on my ceiling? I need a uniform finish to cover some problem spots where cabinets have been removed and light fixtures changed. I could also use popcorn finish, but I think the knockdown ceiling would be the way to go in the long run if it would serve my purpose.

Knock down texture is my favorite, however I believe the old texture would be slightly visible. Best bet would be to sand, scrape or mud over existing finish then texture. You probably could somewhat duplicate the swirl finish on the areas to be patched then apply the knock down and everything should be uniform.
