Hi,
I have a GE side by side fridge with a water and ice dispenser in the freezer door. When you slide the selector to cubed ice or crushed ice, it works fine, but when you slide it to water and push the switch, nothing happens. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Nancy

How old is the fridge? Do you get any water at all? It may be a bad flow switch.

Ok, it's not making new ice, just dispensing what's there... Am I looking at a solenoid? If so, where would it be located and how hard to replace? Any help you can give is appreciated!

I'd say it's only about 8 or 9 years old. Where is the flow switch? Because I would have to say no water is getting through. Thanks.

Do you think I would need to replace the entire circuit board at the door?

When that board goes out you can take it out and usually see a burnt spot on it. Common problem.

The board looks ok. It IS making and dispensing ice, it just won't dispense any chilled water. If anyone has any idea which part needs replaced, I found a site that sells all the parts. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It can be any number of things. You can try dispensing water while someone else listens in the back where the water line hooks to the fridge and if they hear a quiet hum as you depress that would rule out the board. Or you can switch the wiring on the ice maker water valve and the dispenser water valve temporarily, and press the dispenser for water and see if any water shoots into the icemaker. If it does you know the boards ok. If you get voltage down to the water valve then you have a bad water valve. If you hear a hum but no water your water line could be frozen somewhere. Also check for a loose connection under the hinge cover on top of the freezer door.
