Hi all, I live in Rhode Island. Got a quote for earthquake insurance at $95.00/year and flood insurance at $350/year. Are these coverages worth the cost in my area?

They'll pay you $95/year to insure your house against earthquakes! Wow tell them to mail the check TODAY. Just kidding. If you've got $95/year to throw away, give an extra $2/week to your church or Habitat For Humanity.

What flood zone are you in? Flood insurance is HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED by the rest of us, so it's pretty cheap where it might be needed, but overpriced where it's not, if that makes sense. City code office or county recorder's office usually have the maps regarding flood zones.
