Our master bedroom is unusually dusty. I clean the ceiling fan blades and it seems a week later there is an inch of dust back again. The wall behind the dresser is the same way. The rest of the house is nothing like this. What could be going on?

Julbox,

Interesting. We have a very similar problem. We have a bedroom which is always much dustier than the rest of the house. Dust rapidly accumulates on and behind the desk and filing cabinet in that bedroom. There is a ceiling fan in the bedroom. I'm beginning to suspect that a lot of dust is coming down from tiny cracks/gaps around the ceiling fan base. I have been doing some amateur research (internet mostly) about dust in homes. I have read that when the airconditioning/heating unit comes on and when the fresh air return starts to draw in fresh air (usually in a hallway), it causes a slight air pressure drop in the home (almost like a vacuum cleaner effect) and this little pressure drop sucks dust from the attic through cracks and into the living space of the home.

Those that have central forced air, will always have more dust. That's because central forced air systems just simply recirculate dust around and around and back again through the duct work system.

I'm planning to take down that ceiling fan and seal up the hole. It's just a theory -- might not make any difference. But I'm gonna do it.

Do you change the furnace filter every 30 to 90 days that helps. Make sure it is a good pleated kind. also you can add this on the filter to help out . light coat on the intake side of the filter check it out. Their are other sprays also.

Wow! We have the exact same problem. You may want to read my post on this to see if you can try the same fix.

I am going to turn the return duct around from the den to the adjacent master so that it will have a return vent to filter out the dust.

A few things you want to keep in mind why the bed room is more dusty than other rooms.

-Bed sheets puts off lint/dust.. so when you pulls the covers back or making the bed.. you get "dust bomb".. Watch for it when you have sun light beam in the room. YOu'll see the dust..

-Dust from clothes.. when we take clothes out of the dresser, shake it to get the wrinkles out.

-Carpet, it maybe old and dried out. they give off dust when they are old.

-Dust under the bed..

I notice my return in our bed room gets dust on the fins, so I have wipe it off every now and then.
