I apologize if these questions have been asked and answered, but here goes:

The back story:
I just bought a house that was built in 1969. It has no ventilation fans in any bathrooms with showers (there are 2). I plan on installing ceiling mounted fans and ventilating to the outside with 4" aluminum duct. My questions are:

- For my area (upstate NY), what is the better exhaust option: roof cap or soffet?
- What are the pros and cons of both?
- Does the climate matter at all?
- I bought uninsulated, aluminum duct. Should this be insulated?
- If so (I'm guessing yes) what types of products would you recommend? I've seen sleeves and wraps and foils (oh my!) and am a little confused.

Thanks for your input!

Is all in what you can do there . The roof cap with a flipper in it is the best way to go. if you want just wrap the vent pipe with insulation Paper or V/B to the out side.

Given the geography, I would go with a soffet vent. My objection to the roof vent, which I normally prefer, would be due to snow possibly (probably) covering the vent. Insulate the vent pipe well.
