I want to replace an old recessed lighting fixture with a rail track lighting fixture. The problem is that the recessed light is a 7" type so if I take it out and replace it with a standard octagon 4" box in order to hang the new fixture I have a couple of inches of empty space left. There is insulation on the ceiling as well.
Is there an easy way around this or do I have to patch the drywall? I was thinking of maybe using a recessed light trim to cover the empty space but I don't know how I would attach this to the ceiling.
