Size of return grille

I am remodeling the first floor of our 1963 raised ranch. I am looking to relocate access to the furnace return filter from behind the wall to a model that folds out into the room and contains the air filter. My question is that the size to the filter is 20x20inches and the current grill on the outside of the wall is 14.5x17...do I need to reframe the opening so I can keep the same size filter or will the current grille size be ok?

Id just get a 20 X20 filter grill and frame it in the wall there to the cold air duct. That way the grill will just swing out for you to put a new filter in.
