Washing maching pump up to next floor?

Can your average washing maching pump waste water up to a first floor drain from the basement?

They are not made to do this and you will probably be replacing pumps on a regular basis. They will also not fully drain the washer as when the pump shuts off, there will still be the pipe full of water. This will run back into the machine or cause a head pressure for the next time it is used. NOT a good idea. Good luck.

Everything you said makes perfect sence. It's a shame that the folks at Sears told me this arrangement (pumping waste water up to the next floor) will be just fine. This could have caused me a lot of headaches.
