Walls and Ceilings - Textured ceilings

:wall: I'm looking for advice on doing a textured ceiling. I'm redoing our dinning room and attempting to do the ceiling myself. There where beams in the ceiling and we have removed them to expose two lines of popcorn and the rest is swirls. I know I can't match the other swirls so I planned to redo the enter ceiling. I've tried part of the ceiling by putting joint compound on and with a hard brisell brush, attempyted to make swirls, but it looks terrible. Do you have any suggestions? 745RP

Depending on the size of the swirls, you need the appropriate sized brush. Usually they are shaped like a large comb, with very short bristles. And if you didn't thin your mud with water, try that. Mud for texturing ought to be about the consistancy of instant pudding.

You have to skim the ceiling smooth and retexture everything the same
