Water heater is dripping from the bottom with a constant drip. I went into the crawl space to shut the water off and noticed a puddle so it must have been leaking for a couple of days.

I just noticed b/c there was no hot water this morning.

Here are the specs:

Rheem
RHEEMGLAS FURY
Serial # 048632212
Model # 22V40
Input BTUH 40,000
Cap US Gals: 40
Type Natural Gas
Gas Pressure IN. W.C-Manifold-4
MaxSafe-14
Min Inlet-5

Do I need a new one?? Can I install it myself??

I just purchased this house under a year ago and I think I have a year warranty. Who should I contact?

Thanks.

This unit was manufactured in April 1986. If you can convince an insurance company to give you ANYTHING on a 19 year old water heater, grab it!

It does sound like there is a leak in the tank , which is fatal no matter what the age.

If you have hard water, the self cleaning feature can reduce maintenance and prolong the life. As you see, most water heaters outlive their warranty.

19 years old-wow. I hope the new one lasts that long.

I purchasd the GE SmartWater System 9yr warranty 40 Gallons Natural Gas and installed it myself.

The only problem was that it was a little taller than my old one and i have to revent somehow. They originally had the vent hooking up with the furnaces vent and going out. Should I keep it like that or does it need its own vent?

Also, is flexible venting like you use for dryers good enough or would that not work. THanks.

What does everyone use to insulate the tank itself?

Anyone install an automatic timer on there tank?
