I'm fairly handy but this is the first time I've done a kitchen and laundry room - both are gutted to the walls. I've been told to lay the flooring first (laminate) and also to put the cabinets (base and wall) and appliances in first....not sure which piece of advice is correct. ????

The cabinets go in first. It is not a good idea to anchor cabinets over a floating floor. It could cause it to buckle ot separate. This means you will need some ¼ round molding to cover the expansion gap.

The baseboards can go in, either or. It depends if you can maintain the same height as the rest of the baseboards, if they meet up to an existing run. You may have to rip the bottom of the base boards to make it line up with other existing base.

Most of the time the baseboards are already installed and a ¼ round molding id put on to cover the expansion gap.

All doorjambs get undercut.
