Whirlpool Washingmachine

I have 2 yearold Whirlpool EXtra Large Capicity washer Model LXR6432JQ1 that does not spin unless you open the lid a close it again during the spin cycle. If left alone it drains and completes the cycle with no spinning ,however it does cause the motor to smell like it is getting hot. When you lift the lid and look inside during the spin cycle you will hear the trans kick in and the drum will jump and when the lid is closed it thes spins through that cycle, only to fail on the next one.
