Cats vs. Yard

Just bought a house where most of the border of the yard is flowers, plants, and trees all nicely kept up. The problem is the neighborhood cats use this entire area as their bathroom. Removing the cats is not an option so is there any way to prevent them from doing this?

Many folks use motion sensor sprinkler system to deter pets from entering yard and flower beds. You can also use pet repellent, but this needs to be replaced after rain.

If the yard is fenced, you can run a hot wire (electric fence) a couple inches above the top board. This will keep the cats from climbing the fence.
