We have been stripping the carpet out in a house that we just purchased, built in 1965. We will be laying laminate in the living room, kitchen, dining room and a 35 ft long X 4ft hallway.

When we took up the carpet in the living room, there was sheet vinyl flooring underneath that stretched all the way to the entrence of the hallway. I know that you can place laminate over the vinyl, so this is not a problem. I was actually pleased with the vinyl because that would act as an addition underlayment layer. We had taken up carpeting in the hallway and the difference in the heights is nearly 1/2 inch where the living room (vinyl) and the hall meet. I would need to take up the vinyl, actually 2 sheets of it, to even the floors.

I was planning to use a Tmolding there to break the floor up, then run the length of the hall with that section. Since I was planning a transition here anyway, is there any transitional piece or technique that would allow me to
do this without tearing the remaining vinly completely out? I feel sure that I'll need to take it all out, but if there is a way to make it work without doing so, please let me know.
