hello.
i live in a raised ranch with a basement door that opens up to the backyard via a set of 3-4 steps. with all of the heavy rain, the concrete pit containing the stairs is not draining properly, is forming a pool, and flooding uner the door....what can i do for a long term solution? Is there sposed to be a drain somewhere in this thing!?
How about before tomorrow, supposed to get heavy rain.....tarp, planks, etc...?

How is the water getting to the pit????? outside grade??? Gutters on the home stoped up. Roof water get down into it. Was there a floor drain put in it ???? For now built a tent like with a tarp tack it on the home and slope it down from there over the stairs.

Not sure...will observe this weekend. Gutters should not be clogged, they have those little shields on em....although they could have been overflowing as we got A TON OF HEAVY RAIN! My thought was that it filled just from the rain, as the pit extends well out beyond the house...grade not a problem at all. As far as drainage, there is earth and some small rocks down there. After the big snow melt and rain for 9 hours, i dont think the water had anywhere to go but up.
How would i find an existing drain or add more drainage to this?

but drain it to where? straight down into the ground? i dont see how i could route a drain from the bottom of the pit to outside through concrete on all sides. isnt the only way to go down?

As I say dont know what you have there. To go down and out can you get under the footings or can you go out the sid wall with a small drainaway from the home. You just havew to think about it,

dug a hole, bought a bucket and pump, went to town. Regraded the crushed rock...gettting lots of water out. Caulked the hell outta the door jamb (silicon sealant). However, thisgs were still a bit damp when I did this....is that ok? Should I just ad another layer or should I peel this off and start over when its dry?
