Hello!

I've got a 36" Sony Wega tv - recently I moved some large B&W tower speakers into the living room from the basement - when put near the tv, I get magnetic distortion. I find it surprising that this tv isn't shielded - is it possible that the magnets are too big for the shielding? Because these are high end speakers with large magnets. If so, is there anything you can do to shield the tv or do I just have to keep the speakers away from the tv?

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on how strong the magnet in the speaker is. Sometimes you can just add a steel cup over the back of the speaker other times manufacturers use a reverse polarity magnet directly on the back of the speaker and then place the cup over both of them.

Most places that sell build your own speaker parts, sell ceramic magnets that you can use to reduce the magnetic field. The trick is getting the right size - too little has no effect and too large has no effect (actually the magnet you added is now causing the problem, but the result is the same).

I'll have to go check with the folks at my A/V store and see if they have any magnets or other possibilities. Right now the speakers are about 3 feet away - took that to get rid of the distortion.
