You were all so awesome on my last question, I thought I would try a new one. I am replacing an overhead, mounted ceiling fixture. It is original to my house, 1961. This looks to be the configuration of wires. Haven't really undone them yet....too afraid I won't get them back.

-2 black wires coming out of the ceiling connected in a wire nut. ONE of the wires seems to come back out of the nut and goes straight into the back of the one bulb socket in the fixture. It seems to attach with a little round ended connector.

-3 white wires coming out of the ceiling connected in a wire nut. One of those again comes out of the nut and goes straight into the back of the bulb socket.

The new fixture has two white wires and two black. How do I connect them all? Can I cut the wires at the back of the light socket and strip them and then connect with wire nut?

How is the current fixture turned on and off? Does it have a pull chain? A wall switch? Something else?

Shut off the breaker, take off each wire nut (unscrew it), and untwist the wires underneath. When the fixture falls to the floor, it will take one black and one white wire with it, leaving with two black wires and two white wires sticking out of the ceiling. Throw that away.

Now, counting the two wires of each color from your new fixture, you have four wires of each color. Connect all four black wires under one wire nut. Connect all four white wires under another wire nut.

Thanks...all quite simple once I got your advice.
